I grew up surrounded by technology, so it is no surprise that I have a large online footprint and social media presence. I check social media daily, and post fairly frequently. The social medias I use the most are Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, and VSCO. These are not the only ones I use, but they are the ones I use the most.
From visiting my social media, a stranger could see my friends and family, the places I vacation, my college, and where I'm from. I have my Instagram set to private so that I can filter who sees my pictures and who does not. However, anyone can view my profile, see my profile picture, and my biography, which states my college and sorority. When creating my social medias, I have given my name, number, email, and birthday. I never considered how dangerous giving out this information could be if it got in the hands of the wrong people. I also run the risk of getting hacked, but luckily I have avoided that.

One thing to consider is that jobs can see your accounts and posts. When I first joined my sorority freshman year, one of the first things they told us was that we were not allowed to post with alcohol or anything inappropriate. If we do, we will get sent to honor and have to delete the post. I find this helpful because it stops me from posting anything a job would not approve of and causes me to think twice about what I want to post. One thing I have considered is that some jobs might not agree with the content on my twitter. I never tweet my own things, but I often retweet things I find funny or political things I agree with. Occasionally these tweets have foul language, but they do not say anything racist or that would get me in trouble. Other than that, I am very aware of what I post and do not believe that I post anything that would prevent me from getting a job.
In conclusion, I have a large online presence but choose to keep it this way. As I get older, I assume I will become more cautious and more busy and lower my usage and footprint. For now, I am taking the risks associated with having such an online presence and hoping for the best. The recent assignments of this course have caused me to think harder about technology and how it affects my day-to-day life.
